Quick answer: 1. Jinro, 2. McDowell's No.1, 3. Royal Stag, 4. Emperador, 5. Imperial Blue, 6. Johnnie Walker, 7. Officer's Choice, 8. Jim Beam, 9. Jack Daniel's, 10. Jameson.

The global spirits market is dominated by brands that sell in enormous volumes, many of which are little known outside their home regions. This list ranks the top ten spirits brands by annual case sales — a standard industry measure of one 9-litre case (equivalent to 12 standard 750 ml bottles). Two categories dominate the top of the list: Korean soju (a distilled rice-based spirit) and Indian whisky (often made from molasses and classified as Indian-Made Foreign Liquor). Together they account for the top five positions. Global brands like Johnnie Walker, Jim Beam, and Jack Daniel's rank lower than many regional champions, reflecting the sheer scale of consumption in Asia and emerging markets. Data is drawn from The Spirits Business Brand Champions 2025 report, which tracks sales of all major spirits categories worldwide.

How we ranked this

Brands are ranked by the number of 9-litre cases sold globally in calendar year 2024, as reported in The Spirits Business Brand Champions 2025 report. The report aggregates data from brand owners, industry analysts, and customs and excise records. The metric covers all categories of distilled spirits: whisky, vodka, soju, rum, gin, brandy, tequila, and liqueurs. Non-alcoholic and beer/cider products are excluded. Where a brand owner reports multiple product lines under the same brand name, the aggregate figure for the brand is used. All figures are in millions of 9-litre cases.

FAQ

What is a 9-litre case?

A 9-litre case is the standard industry unit for measuring spirits sales volume. It equals 12 standard 750 ml bottles, or 9 litres of spirit. This allows consistent comparison across different bottle sizes and pack formats.

Why is soju the top-selling spirit?

Soju is consumed in enormous volumes in South Korea, where it is the national drink. Jinro alone holds over half the domestic soju market, and the per-capita consumption of soju in Korea is among the highest of any spirit in the world. The brand sells the vast majority of its volume domestically.

What is IMFL whisky?

IMFL stands for Indian-Made Foreign Liquor. In India, these whiskies are typically made from molasses rather than grain, which makes them less expensive to produce. They are classified as 'whisky' under Indian regulations and dominate the domestic market, with most of the top 10 global spirits brands by volume being Indian IMFL whiskies.
