Quick answer
The Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge in China is the longest bridge in the world by total length, at 164,800 metres. Taiwan's Changhua–Kaohsiung Viaduct is second at 157,317 metres and Japan's Kita–Yaita Viaduct third at 114,424 metres. The ranking uses total length of completed bridges of any type, from Wikipedia's List of longest bridges, as of October 2026.
This list ranks bridges by total length, their full length above land and water, not by the length of a single span. That makes it a very different list from the site's span rankings for suspension, cable-stayed and arch bridges: the longest bridges overall are mostly long viaducts carrying railways and expressways.
Seven of the top ten are high-speed rail viaducts, four of them on China's Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway. The other three carry expressways in Thailand, China and the Philippines. Every bridge in the top ten is longer than 39 km.

How we ranked this
Bridges are ranked by total length in metres, as listed in the 'Completed' table of Wikipedia's List of longest bridges (revision 1380353425, 15 October 2026), which compiles lengths from cited sources such as Guinness World Records, news reports and engineering references (the page carries a 'more citations needed' notice and an incomplete-list notice, and not every row has its own citation). The table covers completed bridges of all types longer than 3 km, including rail and road viaducts and bridge-tunnel systems, sorted by full length above land and water; bridges under construction are excluded. The page cautions that there is no standard way to measure a bridge's total length (some figures run ramp to ramp, others shoreline to shoreline), so close lengths should not be over-read. Rank 1 is the longest; there are no ties in the top ten. Lengths, completion years, traffic and country are as the table states them.
FAQ
What is the longest bridge in the world?
The Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge on China's Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway, completed in 2010, at 164,800 metres in total length.
How is this different from the longest bridge span?
Total length is a bridge's full length above land and water. The main span is the longest span without any ground support, which is what span lists rank. Nine of the ten bridges here are listed as viaducts, with no single main span given.
What is the longest road bridge?
In this table the longest road bridge is Thailand's Burapha Withi Expressway, at 54,000 metres, ranked seventh overall. Wikipedia notes it as Guinness World Records' longest road bridge in 2000.
Where does the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway rank?
Eleventh, at 38,442 metres, just outside the top ten. Wikipedia's page notes that Guinness World Records reports it as the longest continuous bridge over water.
Why do different sources give different lengths?
There is no standard way to measure a bridge's total length. Some figures run from the start of the entrance ramp to the end of the exit ramp, some from shoreline to shoreline, and others cover the whole construction.
