Saltwater Crocodile
The saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) has the strongest bite force ever measured in the animal kingdom, at 3,700 PSI (16,460 Newtons). This apex predator of the Indo-Pacific region can grow up to 23 feet (7 meters) and weigh over 2,200 pounds (1,000 kg). Its jaw muscles are extraordinarily powerful, designed for a death roll technique that drowns and dismembers large prey. The bite force was measured in a 2012 study led by Dr. Gregory Erickson of Florida State University, which found that saltwater crocodiles have the highest bite force of any living animal.
