Brazil
Brazil harvested 759,662,482 tonnes of sugarcane in 2024, down from 782,058,236 tonnes in 2023. It grows about 1.7 times as much as India and more than the eight countries ranked third to tenth combined.
The ten biggest sugarcane growers ranked by 2024 harvest in million tonnes, from FAO crop statistics: Brazil leads with 759.7 million tonnes, ahead of India at 453.2 million.
Brazil is the world's largest sugarcane producer, harvesting 759.7 million tonnes in 2024. India is second at 453.2 million tonnes and China (mainland) third at 102.1 million tonnes. The ranking uses FAO 2024 sugarcane production figures from the FAOSTAT bulk download (release of 23 December 2025).
Sugarcane production is heavily concentrated: in 2024 Brazil and India together harvested more than 1.2 billion tonnes, nearly 12 times the harvest of the next-largest grower, mainland China. This list ranks countries by the tonnes of sugarcane harvested in 2024.

India produced 453,158,494 tonnes in 2024, down about 8% from 490,533,351 tonnes in 2023.
Mainland China harvested 102,094,400 tonnes in 2024, slightly below 104,565,500 tonnes in 2023, and is the only other country above 100 million tonnes.
Pakistan produced 84,235,451 tonnes in 2024, down from 87,637,669 tonnes in 2023. It moved ahead of Thailand because Thailand's harvest fell faster.
Thailand harvested 82,435,400 tonnes in 2024, down about 12% from 93,981,770 tonnes in 2023, when it had out-produced Pakistan.
Mexico produced 53,051,362 tonnes in 2024, down from 55,589,515 tonnes in 2023, the largest total in North America.
Indonesia is recorded at 32,000,000 tonnes in 2024, up from 31,000,000 tonnes in 2023; FAOSTAT flags both as figures from an external organization ('Unofficial figure').
Colombia harvested 31,856,922 tonnes in 2024, slightly below 32,189,251 tonnes in 2023, and edges the United States by about 250,000 tonnes.
The United States produced 31,609,950 tonnes in 2024, up from 29,897,180 tonnes in 2023, one of only two top-10 growers, with Indonesia, to increase output.
Australia harvested 29,855,156 tonnes in 2024, down about 8% from 32,589,391 tonnes in 2023, when it had out-produced Colombia, the United States and Indonesia.

Ranked by 2024 production of the FAOSTAT item 'Sugar cane' (Production: Crops and livestock products, element Production, tonnes), from the FAOSTAT bulk download (Production_Crops_Livestock, release of 23 December 2025). 2024 is the latest year in that release. One source, one year: every top-ten value is a 2024 figure; the 2023 figures and year-on-year comparisons come from the same dataset, and percentage changes are our calculation. Metric values are converted to million tonnes and rounded to one decimal place; exact tonnages, with fractional values rounded to whole tonnes, are shown in the facts. FAOSTAT flags Indonesia's 2023 and 2024 figures as figures from an external organization (noted 'Unofficial figure'); all other top-ten figures for both years are flagged official. Figures measure harvested cane, not sugar; sugar beet is a separate FAO item and is not included. 'China' is mainland China; FAO's 'China' aggregate (which adds Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao) and regional and world totals are excluded. There are no ties; Colombia (31,856,922 t) and the United States (31,609,950 t) are separated by less than 1%, and 11th place is Guatemala at 22,907,870 t (FAO-imputed).
Brazil, with 759,662,482 tonnes harvested in 2024 according to FAO data, about 1.7 times India's 453,158,494 tonnes.
No. These figures are tonnes of harvested sugarcane, not of sugar, and they do not include sugar beet, which FAO records as a separate crop.
Both harvests fell in 2024, but Thailand's dropped from 93,981,770 to 82,435,400 tonnes while Pakistan's fell only from 87,637,669 to 84,235,451 tonnes.
