China and India together harvested more than 253 million tonnes in 2024, and third-placed Russia harvested more than 1.5 times as much as the fourth-placed United States. This list ranks countries by total wheat production in 2024, the latest year in the FAO data, and shows how each country's harvest compared with 2023. It is for readers interested in food supply, trade and agriculture.

Ranked by 2024 production of the FAOSTAT item 'Wheat' (Production: Crops and livestock products, element Production, tonnes), from the FAOSTAT bulk download (Production_Crops_Livestock, release of 23 December 2025). 2024 is the latest year in that release. One source, one year: every top-ten value is a 2024 figure. Only individual countries are ranked; the European Union and other aggregates are excluded, so EU members appear separately (France is the only one in the top 10). 'China' is mainland China; FAO's 'China' aggregate (which adds Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao) is not used. FAOSTAT flags Russia's 2023 and 2024 figures as figures from an external organization; all other top-ten figures for both years are flagged official. FAO figures can differ from national crop reports and are revised over time. Fractional values are rounded to whole tonnes. There are no ties; 11th place is Kazakhstan at 18,576,694 tonnes. The 2023 output and change columns come from the same dataset; percentage changes are our calculation, rounded to one decimal place.
Mainland China, with 140,100,000 tonnes in 2024 according to FAOSTAT. India (113,292,368 tonnes) and Russia (82,588,000 tonnes) follow.
Kazakhstan (18,576,694 tonnes), Germany (18,526,700 tonnes) and Argentina (18,510,280 tonnes) were within about 70,000 tonnes of each other in 2024. Kazakhstan's harvest was up from 12,110,913 tonnes in 2023.
The list ranks individual countries only. EU members appear separately; France is the only one in the 2024 top 10, and Germany ranked 12th.
This list uses FAOSTAT figures only. USDA and national agencies publish their own estimates, often for marketing years such as 2024/25, and FAO revises its figures over time, so totals will not always match.
